A consultant who won’t hand you a master plan and then disappear…

Date: 7 March 2018 | By: admin

A client said to me the other day that some consultants just work with you for a few months then bail when the real work needed to be done.

It’s seemingly easier to present a lovely master plan to the client after working with them for a few months and then move on to the next job with the attitude of “well, it was all fine when I left you”.

That doesn’t wash with me as what’s the point in brilliant research and observation with no actual reportable outcome? Surely that just leaves your client with resentment and damages your brand.

I can see why there would be the perception that consultants fly in and fly out but its’s certainly not how I like to work.

Why work for all of the ingredients with the recipe and have no chef?

I’m a completer finisher and if I commit to starting something, I’m finishing. If for whatever reason I can't complete something you'll have plenty of notice and there'll already be a contingency. I make a promise to my clients on day one and ensure that that is fulfilled.

The benefits of doing what you say you are going to do far outweigh the negatives.

I usually use my instinct as and when to hand everything back to a client but I have to be 100% happy that the strategy will continue to work without me there every week pushing it along.

It’s so important once the full business and marketing plan is written, to ensure everyone else is on the journey with you and that expectations are clear for everyone going forward.

I will never be a fly in and fly out consultant as the promise and the outcomes are too important to the journey for me. I treat myself as another internal employee for the duration of our working contract - it’s as simple as that.

If you want to work with someone who will do what they say and then do more, give me a call.
